What the museum label doesn't tell you
That giant head doesn't breathe, it spews coins straight from its nose. Look at the tub in the center: naked bodies bathe in money falling like water while demons circle around them. The mask-face has round windows for eyes and trees sprouting from its ears, as if greed were just another kind of landscape. This is a workshop piece after Bosch, kept at Madrid's Lázaro Galdiano Museum, recycling motifs from his other panels—the helmet medallion in the Prado's Seven Deadly Sins, the burning gate from The Garden of Earthly Delights—like fragments of a hell-shaped puzzle. How long before you notice you're bathing in your own greed?
