What the museum label doesn't tell you
The work travelled a long family path before reaching a public museum: it passed from Theo van Gogh to his widow Jo van Gogh-Bonger, then to their son Vincent Willem, and was only transferred to a public foundation in 1962, finally entering the Van Gogh Museum in 1994.
