Willem Drost

Dutch 17th-century painter, pupil of Rembrandt and active in Amsterdam and later in Italy. He is remembered for his portraits of loose execution and dramatic use of light, very close to his master's style, which has sometimes made it difficult to attribute some of his works with certainty.
