Valentin de Boulogne

French painter (1591-1632) active in Rome, one of the most outstanding followers of Caravaggio. He cultivated genre scenes with cardsharps and musicians, as well as religious subjects, with intense chiaroscuro and figures of great realism. He was part of the circle of foreign Caravaggisti in 17th-century Rome.
