Théodore Chassériau
French 19th-century painter, pupil of Ingres and also influenced by Delacroix, which allowed him to fuse classicist drawing with romantic colour. He is remembered for his orientalist scenes, portraits and historical compositions, which reflect his journey to Algeria and his pursuit of a synthesis between the two traditions.
