Théodore Caruelle d'Aligny

French 19th-century painter, linked to the Barbizon school and to classical landscape painting of Italian inspiration. He is remembered for his landscapes of rigorous composition, influenced by the tradition of Poussin and Claude Lorrain, which combined direct observation of nature with a classical sense of order.
