Simon Denis
Flemish painter of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, also active in Italy. He is remembered for his studies of skies and open-air landscapes, executed with notable attention to atmospheric effects, which anticipate concerns characteristic of nineteenth-century landscape painting.
