Salvator Rosa
Italian painter, poet and printmaker (1615-1673) active in Naples, Rome and Florence. He cultivated wild landscapes and scenes of witchcraft and philosophical themes, moving away from the prevailing classicism. He is regarded as a precursor of Romantic sensibility for his taste for the sublime and the dark.
