Pompeo Batoni

Italian painter of the eighteenth century, a central figure of Roman Neoclassicism and the preferred portraitist of travellers on the European Grand Tour. His portraits, combining formal elegance with references to classical Antiquity, established him as one of the most sought-after painters of his time in Rome.
