Pietro Lorenzetti
Italian painter of the fourteenth century, active mainly in Siena, where he developed, together with his brother Ambrogio, a style combining the Byzantine tradition with spatial and expressive innovations characteristic of Italian Gothic. He is remembered for his religious works, especially altarpieces and scenes of the Passion marked by strong dramatic intensity.
