Nicolas de Largillierre

French painter of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, one of the most prominent portraitists of his generation. Trained between Antwerp and London, he is remembered for his portraits of the Parisian bourgeoisie and aristocracy, executed with virtuosity and great richness of detail in fabrics and lace.
