John Trumbull

American painter (1756–1843), known as the «painter of the Revolution» for his historical scenes depicting American independence. Partly trained in London under the influence of Benjamin West, he combined history painting with portraiture. He is remembered for works such as those that decorate the Capitol, a visual testimony to the nation's founding events.
