Johan Barthold Jongkind

Dutch painter of the 19th century, active mainly in France, considered a forerunner of Impressionism. His manner of capturing light and water in urban landscapes and seascapes directly influenced artists such as Monet. He is remembered for his views of ports and rivers executed with loose brushwork and shifting atmospheres.
