Joachim Patinir

Flemish painter of the early 16th century, considered a pioneer of landscape as an independent genre in Western painting. His works combine religious or mythological scenes with extensive panoramas of rocks, rivers and blue-toned skies. He is remembered for having anticipated the importance of landscape in later European art.
