Jean-Jacques Henner
French painter of the 19th century, trained in the academic tradition and winner of the Prix de Rome. His work combines classical drawing with a use of chiaroscuro inspired by Correggio, applied to both nudes and portraits. He is remembered for his pale-skinned female figures against dark backgrounds and for his scenes of Alsatian inspiration.
