Jacopo Bassano

Italian painter of the sixteenth century, originally from Bassano del Grappa, a leading figure of the Venetian Mannerist school. He founded a dynasty of painters with his sons. He is remembered for his religious scenes set in rural surroundings, with figures of shepherds and animals treated with remarkable naturalism.
