Dutch painter of the seventeenth century, active in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, associated with genre painting of the Dutch Golden Age. He specialised in scenes of bourgeois interiors with elegant figures. He is remembered for his refined treatment of light and fabrics in domestic compositions.
