Hyacinthe Rigaud
French painter of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, official portraitist to the court of Louis XIV and his successors. He developed a solemn and sumptuous style, characteristic of French Baroque courtly portraiture. He is remembered for his portraits of royalty and the aristocracy, which established the model for the state portrait in France.
