Guercino

Guercino, the name by which Giovanni Francesco Barbieri was known, was an Italian Baroque painter active in Cento, Rome and Bologna during the seventeenth century. He was noted for his handling of chiaroscuro and for religious and mythological compositions of strong dramatic intensity, which placed him among the leading exponents of Bolognese Baroque painting.
