Francesco Francia
Italian painter of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, a leading figure of the Bolognese school of his time. He was also a goldsmith and engraver before turning to painting. He is remembered for his Virgins with Child and court portraits, carefully executed and serene in tone, close to Renaissance classicism.
