Fra Filippo Lippi
Italian painter of the fifteenth century, belonging to the early Florentine Renaissance. A Carmelite friar, he was an indirect pupil of Masaccio and the teacher of Botticelli. He is remembered for his delicate depictions of the Virgin and Child, with soft lines and humanised figures, which marked Florentine religious painting of his time.
