Fra Angelico

Italian painter of the early Renaissance, a Dominican friar active in Florence during the fifteenth century. He is remembered for his frescoes in the convent of San Marco and for devotional works of profound spirituality, characterised by luminous colours and a clear composition that harmonises the Gothic tradition with new Renaissance principles.
