Fitz Henry Lane

American painter of the nineteenth century, associated with Luminism, a movement centred on the serene and luminous depiction of maritime landscapes. Active chiefly in Massachusetts, he is remembered for his harbour and marine views of calm atmosphere, which precisely capture the light and stillness of the New England coast.
