Eugène Fromentin

French painter and writer of the nineteenth century, a leading figure of Orientalism through his travels and stays in Algeria. He is remembered for his scenes of Arab life, caravans, and North African landscapes, as well as for his writings on art, in which he combined direct observation with notable literary sensibility.
