Eugène Carrière

French painter of the late nineteenth century, associated with Symbolism, known for his palette reduced to ochres and greys wrapped in a misty atmosphere. He is remembered above all for his portraits and scenes of motherhood, intimate and emotive in character, which set him apart within the Parisian art world of his time.
