Emanuel de Witte
Dutch painter of the seventeenth century, specialised in interiors of Protestant churches, a genre in which he became one of the most prominent figures of Dutch Golden Age painting. His compositions, built through effects of light and architectural perspective, show the religious space as a setting for everyday life. He also cultivated domestic and marine scenes.
