Bartolomeo Manfredi
Italian painter active in Rome during the first third of the seventeenth century, a key figure of Caravaggism. He developed what became known as the 'Manfredi method', scenes of drinkers, soldiers and gamblers with strong contrasts of light and shadow, which spread Caravaggio's style among later European artists.
