Antoine Watteau
French painter of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, creator of the fêtes galantes genre. He is remembered for his idyllic scenes of elegant figures in gardens, with a poetic and melancholic atmosphere that renewed French painting at the dawn of the Rococo.
