Alfred Sisley
French painter of British origin (1839-1899), one of the founders of Impressionism. He devoted himself almost exclusively to landscape, especially views of rivers and villages in the Paris region, capturing the changing effects of light. Despite his importance within the movement, he did not achieve commercial recognition during his lifetime.
