Alexej von Jawlensky
Russian painter (1864-1941) settled in Germany, a leading figure of Expressionism and linked to the Der Blaue Reiter group. He is remembered for his portraits and heads of intense colours and simplified forms, as well as his Fauvist-influenced landscapes. His work evolved towards a progressive abstraction of human faces.
