Adriaen Coorte

Dutch painter of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, specialising in small-format still lifes with fruit, asparagus or shellfish against dark, neutral backgrounds. He is remembered for the sobriety and luminous naturalism of his compositions, of which little biographical documentation survives.
