Adolphe Monticelli

French painter of the nineteenth century, born in Marseille, loosely associated with the Impressionist movement for his expressive handling of colour and impasto brushwork. His floral still lifes and figure scenes notably influenced Vincent van Gogh, who admired his chromatic technique.
